FRONT PORCH STORIES: Window pain
Dyson the Terrible Puppy ate the house. Not “all gone” as my 2-year-old grandson, Asher, might say, but ate it somewhat.
When we leave for any length of time, we make certain the pups are comfy cozy, with soft music playing in the background, toy box where they can reach it, blankets here and there so they can curl up and, most recently, a dining room chair perch at the windows.
I figured since I moved the sofa in one of my furniture-moving fits I would put the chair so Dyson the Terrible and his BFF (best friend forever) Hoover could gaze through the window as they pine away for us while we are gone.
Kerby, the matriarch, is nearly blind and content with holding court on a blanket in the corner while the two boys make fools of themselves.
Leaving him loose in the living room was a great plan since we sprung Dyson from the confines of his crate. It was a valiant effort on our part to project the fact we trusted him to be a good dog in the house.
Silly us.
Dyson the Terrible Puppy cannot tell time. Truthfully, none of the three dogs can, but Kerby and Hoover at least expect us to return within a reasonable amount of time and do not freak out if we are gone for a few hours. Dyson apparently thinks the first few minutes are plenty of time for us to return to fully entertain him, and he goes crazy after about six minutes.
I know this to be true because one time I walked into the garage and was gone for just over five minutes. Upon my return, the Terrible had already had a meltdown and — in a desperate effort to console himself — consumed a sock and part of a Sharpie marker. The black Sharpie pen left telltale marks on his nose for weeks.
But this time was different. Dyson has grown out of his sock and Sharpie days of his youth. After all, he hasn’t tried to ingest a remote control in weeks. Considering his ability to restrain himself, John and I had a long discussion of how we might test the little monster. We came up with a plan.
I cleared everything from the coffee table and the end table between our chairs. I put our lap quilts and decorative pillows on our bed and shut the bedroom door. I closed off the hallway with a baby gate and secured the entrance to the dining room with a folding table. I was going to call the National Guard but at the last minute thought better of it.
When it was time to leave, I did a second check and the plan was in action; our home was safe, and there wasn’t a single thing the pup could get into.
Collapsible Dog Crate - News
For this, I use a collapsible wire crate. Available at all pet supply stores as well as online, the best ones are priced from the mid- to high-end of the range. A bargain-priced crate may not be sturdy enough to contain your dog.

The boot swallowed a large dog cage lengthwise and still left room for two large suitcases… then we filled the roof-box and it happily hauled us off on holiday. I wasn't so much of a fan of the 407 SW which could not match it spacewise but,
He is wanting to socialize with other dogs, but only for 5 to 10 minutes at a time and then goes back for crate rest and to sleep. Still needs continual rest for the swelling but all this is fantastic news! Thank you everyone for your continued support
Working within the SPLOST budget, there won't be much money left for furnishings other than folding chairs. “They'll have a place to sit down and a place to take a shower,” Garland said. “At this point in time, we're not going to be able to put in
