AurGroup scores on short-term loans for school, holidays

Bankers have been saying for months that they have plenty of capital to lend, but borrowing demand isn’t strong enough.

Tim Boellner and the people at AurGroup Financial Credit Union in Fairfield have found a way to lend to one part of the economy that’s burgeoning with customers. AurGroup is offering short-term loans for amounts below $2,000 with very little underwriting. People with low credit scores are flocking to borrow that money. And AurGroup is running into surprisingly few problems getting people to pay it back.

Hamilton resident receives state honor for work at credit union

FAIRFIELD — For the first time, Ohio Credit Union League named someone other than a CEO from Hamilton its Professional of the Year.

Eileen Meeker, vice president of business development for AurGroup Financial Credit Union, based in Fairfield, received the honor April 6 as part of the trade association’s annual convention.

The award recognizes a CEO or executive who has demonstrated professionalism, integrity, dedication and leadership in their institution or in support of credit unions, according to the credit union league.

It is one of the group’s honors for its Leadership Recognition Program, which also includes Volunteer of the Year, Director Emeritus and Claude Clarke Political Inspiration Award, among others. At the same convention, Tim Boellner, AurGroup’s president and chief executive, was appointed chairman of the league’s board of directors.

“One of the reasons we wanted to recognize her is her commitment to people helping people,” said Angela Lambert, AurGroup’s vice president of human resources/corporate development.

One of the ways Meeker embodies the mantra of credit unions is by implementing a program at the union this year to allow employees to do community service on company time.

Meeker has been vice president at AurGroup eight years, working out of its West Chester Twp. branch more than a year now, she said. Before that, she worked at Hamilton-based credit union Chaco for 21 years.

The 73-year-old started working in the industry because she wanted to be a member. When she started, only select employer groups could use credit unions. The only other way to join was to work for one.

Now anyone who works, lives, worships or attends where a credit union is chartered can join.
