Three Plattsburgh men charged in Malone home invasion - NEW YORK'S ...
Ray Brook, NY – June 26, 2011On June 26, 2011, at approximately 5:15 a.m., New York State Police received a call to interview an assault victim at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. Responding Troopers interviewed Jeffery Durant, age 32, of County Route 25 in Malone, who was being treated for a head wound. Durant stated that he was home sleeping on his couch, woke up around 5:00 a.m. and discovered three intruders in his residence. A struggle ensued and Durant was struck in the head with a metal object. He fled the residence and was picked up by an acquaintance on County Route 25 and driven to the hospital.
State Police personnel found a vehicle parked at the Malone Recreation Park and located a subject at the Malone Country Club with the same last name as the registered owner. Daniel DeCarlo, age 28, of Plattsburgh was taken into custody after Malone Country Club personnel stated that he was found walking on the golf course grounds. Two other subjects; Brandon F. Collins, age 19, and Todd N. Knudson, age 19, both of Plattsburgh, were located by Troopers with the assistance of a K-9 unit, and taken into custody.
All three subjects were charged with first-degree burglary, arraigned in the Town of Bombay Court and committed to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail. Durant was transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Center in Burlington, where he is being treated for a fractured skull and numerous lacerations. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
The preliminary investigation determined that the suspects targeted Durant because he is dating the ex-girlfriend of DeCarlo. The suspects entered Durant’s residence through an unlocked sliding glass door.
The New York State Police are continuing their investigation and additional charges are pending consultation with Franklin County District Attorney Derek Champagne.
