Put a Rainbow Around the Gloom

05/08/2011

Love Is In the air and dollars everywhere.

At least, that’s the theme for Darlinghurst and Surry Hills traders who are launching a Shop Local campaign running for the month of August.

It’s all part of what is creating a huge buzz around what promises to be a big month for the suburbs which fall under the 2010 postcode. Retailers in the area are enthusiastic, anticipating large crowds of bargain hunters and shoppers.

Two of the highlights will be a mighty blitz sale to take place at various participating outlets from the 18th - 21st August, where shoppers can take advantage of bargain prices and fashion fun and a gl outdoor fashion parade showcasing local retailers, to be held at Taylor Square on Saturday 20th August between 12 - 3pm. The show will include live performances by local artists Mike Champion and African dance group Saea Banyana, there will also be a Drag Fashion show, in which anyone can vote for a winner and all this will coincide with the Sydney Sustainable Markets.

The do-it-with-flair weekend is all about bringing back the faithful after what has been a significantly poor year for retailers across the nation.

But now the empire is striking back. Local stores in the Darlinghurst/Surry Hills precincts, including the iconic Oxford & Crown Street strips, will be pushing rock-bottom bargains out their doors in readiness for spring and summer.

The event is happening with strong support from the Lord Mayor, Clover Moore who is expected to take an active part in the program being organized by the 2010 Business Partnership - http://www.love2010.com.au . This is a valued alliance between the Darlinghurst / Surry Hills business community and the City of Sydney. Everyone concerned with the big weekend is going all-out to help ramp up what has traditionally been the retailing buzz of this unique precinct.
