Watch Roommate's Trippy New Video For "August Song"

Just as July is wrapping up, Chicago quartet Roommate released the video for its relaxed track, "August Song," from this year's Guilty Rainbow . Roommate mainman Kent Lambert did us the kindness of sending over the clip for "August Song," uploaded earlier this month. The video features animation and imagery from Jodie Mack, a Chicagoan who is now a professor at Dartmouth, and Emily Kuehn.

Roommate is about to hit the road in a smaller configuration -- just Lambert and Cody Hennesy from Chicago Bay Area band The Rhombus -- for a West Coast tour where they'll open for fellow Chicagoans Califone in Santa Barbara, CA.

How To Find the Area of 2-D Figures – two dimensional figures ...

Two dimensional figures are very common not only in mathematics and geometry but also in practical applications. Knowing the ways to solve for the areas of objects can be very helpful when trying to buy cloth, covering material or even wall paper! This article would focus on the formulas and other techniques used to compute for the areas of two dimensional or 2-D figures.

For our purposes, we define "A" as the area.

Square

A = side x side

A square as we all know has four equal sides with the angles all being right (or 90 degrees). To get the area of a square, multiply the length of one side with itself. For example, if a square measures 4 centimeters on each side, the area would be 16 square centimeters (4 x 4 = 16). Be mindful of the units. Area is always expressed as square units.

Rectangle

A = length x width

A rectangle is a four-sided shape that may or may not have equal sides – a square is, by definition, a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square. To solve for the area of a square, simply multiply the length of the rectangle with the width. If a square has a side measuring 4 centimeters and another measuring 5 centimeters, the area would be 20 square centimeters  ( 4 x 5 = 20).

Triangle

A = ½ x base x height

To solve for the area of a triangle, multiple the measurement of base of the triangle with the height before multiplying it by one half. If a triangle has a base of 6 centimeters and a height of 10 centimeters, the area would be 30 square centimeters (1/2 x 6 x 10 = 30). A short mnemonic here is to imagine the triangle as essentially a square or a rectangle, but with the top half taken out. Therefore, this is the reason the computation is half the base times height.

Parallelogram

A = length x width

A parallelogram is similar to a rectangle. The only difference is that the sides are slightly skewed. This makes the angles slightly acute (less than 90 degrees) and slightly obtuse (more than 90 degrees). To get the area of a parallelogram, multiply the length with the height of the shape. If the parallelogram has a length of 5 centimeters and a height of 3 centimeters, the area would be 15 square centimeters ( 5 x 3 = 15). A simple mnemonic here would be that a parallelogram’s area is much like a rectangle’s. Imagine cutting the excess from one side and fitting it into the other – you form a rectangle!
