BLITZER'S BLOG: Will Obama rip a page from Clinton's playbook?

(CNN) – Have you noticed how many liberals lately have been piling on President Obama? Their criticisms have been harsh and intense. They mostly focus on his supposed willingness to make concessions to conservative Republicans. They charge that he lets himself be bullied because that is part of his non-confrontational nature.

I remember hearing similar criticism in 1995 and 1996 when President Bill Clinton was being hammered for making deals with House Speaker Newt Gingrich and other conservative Republicans. Clinton, for example, agreed to major welfare reform which infuriated many of his liberal base. He was accused of selling out long-standing Democratic Party principles.

Major difference, Clinton didn't hate every American right of center and never called every American right of center the enemy as Obama has, for example the interview he did on Univision last fall.

Clinton didn't hate the hard working, good hearted and decent people in the middle of the country, he would never say something so hateful and offensive as "they cling to their guns and religion".

As much as I would've liked for Obama to have gone "hood" on some of these tough-talking suburban wannabes I never once saw him being bullied. I saw him being left out to dry by members of his own Party. I saw a man who had lost his mentor in Ted Kennedy and could've used his guidance to help him navigate, and circumvent the bullcrap that is inherent within Washington. And ultimately I saw a man that used his intelligence, and chess-like thinking to leverage himself, BY HIMSELF, with NO HELP against a system that has been entrenched in this town for many, many decades. Let's face it, whether you agree with his policies or not, the man had THE COJONES to facedown the pharmaceutical, Big Oil, insurance, AND Wall Street pretty much all by himself. He did what no one else dared do, and he did it for the middle class. He has stood fast to his beliefs, and has done the best he could facing almost insurmountable odds and people in government. What he has accomplished for this country in spite all of this obstruction is nothing short of prodigious.

Obama is NO Bill Clinton. Clinton was smart enough to know when what he was doing wasn't working. Obama doubles down on failure after failure. Either too stupid and inexperienced to know better, or more likely too arrogant to admit he was wrong. Obama is also FAR MORE DIVISIVE and ideological than Clinton. He has attacked and demonized everybody or entity on this planet. Blamed them for anything and everything. Again, too arrogant to admit HE is wrong.
