Jenschke offers the latest in Pilates equipment and classes for beginner through advanced clients. She has private and semi-private lessons as well as group classes and she even has Pilates for equestrians.
You might ask what is Pilates and what can it do for you. Jenschke explains that Pilates is a form of exercise created during the World War I to rehabilitate veterans. Joseph Pilates sought a discipline to combine the physique of the ancient Greeks with the meditative strength of the East. Even though the Pilates method was originally created for men, today it is also used by dancers and athletes all over the world, including over 11 million Americans.
Pilates tones and lengthens the muscles and strengthens the core. By doing so, it improves balance, posture and grace. It also helps to relieve stress.
Jenschke was first introduced to Pilates by her mother, who practiced the method in Connecticut, where Jenschke grew up. She admitted that she didn’t treat her body right as a youngster, always concerned with her weight and usually eating the wrong things.
After she graduated from college she moved to New York City. Seeking a healthy lifestyle she attended the Kelly Kane School of Core Integration and became fully certified in Pilates.
While living in New York City she also tried to make documentary films. Her first idea was to do a documentary on ranching and the cattle business. That brought her to Fredericksburg. However, the film didn’t pan out so she stayed to teach Pilates. That is where she met her husband Adam Jenschke.
Adam Jenschke is a Fredericksburg native and manages the Dogleg Ranch so the couple settled in Bandera County a few years ago. Eleanor Jenschke moved her studio to Bandera last year.
“I try to make Pilates assessable to everyone, the idea of it not being an elitist activity. It’s so beneficial for everyone in that it improves your posture by strengthening those postural muscles of the abdomen and back and the hips. I think everyone can benefit from that,” Jenschke said.
Jenschke offers private lessons on the equipment for older clients and for those with limitations. The machines have names like reformer, the chair, Cadillac and the spine corrector. She has found the machines are much easier for those clients.
She also offers group classes on mats and finds that younger clients prefer them as they are more of a challenge. However, she only accepts clients above the age of 14.
