Edible bouquet business brings new gift options to Chillicothe

CHILLICOTHE -- Two Chillicothe entrepreneurs are hoping to bring some sweet gift options to Chillicothe.

Edible fruit arrangements and cakes will be the main specialty at the Sweet William Blossom Boutique at 9 W. Second St. in downtown Chillicothe.

Anni Frizzell, 24, and her aunt, Lori Botchie, plan to open the new store on Tuesday, offering Ross County residents a new option for flower delivery. In addition to edible fruits, the women also plan to offer traditional fresh flower arrangements and chocolate-covered fruit and candied apples.

"It's something different, and if you're sending fruit, it's 100 percent edible and healthy," Frizzell said.

The women have been planning for the business opening since January.

Frizzell graduated from Ohio University with a degree in organizational communications and marketing. Although she got a job after college, it wasn't what she had hoped for, and she joined forces with Botchie to take things in a new direction. Although Botchie has a full-time job, she also has a business degree and plans to help Frizzell as much as possible when she's not at her other job.

Frizzell worked for a florist during college and gained some experience about the art. She said she enjoyed the job, and always had thought about opening her own store. Both women said they're looking forward to the excitement of trying something new.

"What I was doing before, I just didn't feel like it fit," Frizzell said.

The pair named the boutique after two important men in their family. Frizzell's brother is named William, as is her grandfather, William Landrum. Frizzell said both men have been supportive in the startup of the business, and she wanted to pay tribute to them -- so she named the store after Sweet William, the popular garden plant.

"It kind of has a lot of meaning to us," Frizzell said. "We're so, so thankful for our family support."

In addition to flowers and fresh fruit, Frizzell and Botchie's new store will feature other earthy goodies, including woodwork items for sale built by Frizzell's grandfather, Calvin Knisley, and soy candles made by a Hillsboro Company. She also hopes to feature local artists on the walls.

"Shopping local is very important to us. We want to buy our fruit locally whenever we can," Frizzell said.

The pair are hosting a soft opening on Monday night and plan to assume regular business hours on Tuesday.

"We're hoping people stop in any time to find out what we're all about," Frizzell said.
