Rick Perry's Swing-Voter Problem

This is a walking, talking symbol of the culture war, and only the first obstacle standing between Rick Perry and a win general elections. To the dismay of Mitt "I'm eligible for" Romney, Republican primary voters flocking to the Governor of Texas anyway. They are not concerned about the attitudes and demographics of states that will decide the next president, but perhaps they should be.

Perry burst onto the field as the GOP mythical film version of a politician-the hard, straight-talking cowboy who has never averse from a shootout with enemies or a shout-out God.All this and a record worthy of praise the job as governor. In short, it is the anti-Obama. It is no wonder that so many Republicans are struck.

But the forces of Perry are also potential weaknesses. It is so rooted in Austin and Paint Creek, and has such a controversial and colorful paper trail video campaign that his character may be tough sell in the districts outside the Lone Star State. In addition, it has strengthened the archetype, or at least he did before he became a national candidate. It is, he wrote in his 2010 book Fed Up, "the kind of guy who goes jogging in the morning, packing a Ruger.380 with laser sighting loaded with hollow point bullets, and shoot a coyote threatening his daughter's dog. "

What is a swing-state voters supposed to do suburb that? How older people respond to its repeated descriptions of social security as fraudulent, "illegal Ponzi scheme" similar to the one who put Bernie Madoff in prison, or his opinion that Medicare is a constitutional too far? How moderate independent voters held its apparent religiosity, or outright skepticism about evolution and global warming?Will they agree with him that the 16th Amendment, which allows the federal government to collect and spend tax return, and the 17th Amendment, which allows voters rather than state legislatures to choose senators, were errors hinge? How about his stated goal of making the federal government as a "consequence" as possible in people's lives?

For all these reasons, Perry would boost the wing of the GOP Tea Party. The problem for the party is that for the same reasons, he had to light a fire under Democrats discouraged and possibly alienating large segments of voters in swing.He's already polling worse than Romney among independents. Brad Coker, managing director of Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, questions whether the GOP is on its way to repeat his 2010 mistake of picking candidates for Senate who lost winnable seats, among them Sharron Angle in Nevada, Christine O 'Donnell in Delaware and Ken Buck in Colorado. "Is Rick Perry will fall into this mold? It's hard to say, but the potential is there, "said Coker.

Cast HP bullets finally!!!

So I finally fulfilled a minor dream and cast my very first hollow point bullets. I used lead with just a little tin to help fill out. This is from a Mp-Molds 200 grain bullet mold. Wow, that thing likes to be run hot and fast. I thought Lee molds were bad about that. I'm trying LLA first to see if that will lube enough. I added "Basic in Black" since she will be my first test platform for these. I had seen others do it, so I knew I could as well. It wasn't easy but they just take a little more patience and a minor learning curve. We should all be doing this. We should at least all have the tools and know how. I never plan on fearing an ammo shortage again... Mixed brass, 5.0 grains HP38, Winchester large pistol primers. I drove to the range this afternoon only to drive away. Wow it was crowded. I don't have a chrono but I feel pretty good using published loads. This one is very middle of the road. I used some advice and set the OAL to 1.20 for proper feeding in my 1911 with cast bullets. I may try during the week when it is slower at the range. I just want to emphasize that for the minor learning curve and cost involved, this is really very easy to do. I wanted to not just reload my own range plinking and target ammo, but I also wanted a good defensive load for the next ammo crunch. When ammo disappeared off shelves, I was glad that I always used to buy a box or two every time I went to the store. Now as long as I stay in primers and powder I'm set. We should ALL BE DOING THIS!!!
